Mourning jewelry's primary color is black, and is worn to mourn the loss of a loved one.
Mourning jewelry was popular during the Georgian era and gained popularity again during the Victorian era, after the death of Prince Albert in 1861.  Queen Victoria remained in mourning until her passing, in 1901.

Black enamel, jet, onyx, glass, and even human hair were common materials used in in mourning jewelry.
