Scarab, short for scarabaeus sacer, is a type of dung beetle that is considered sacred in Egyptian culture.

Scarabs were carved by Ancient Egyptians using gems, rocks, wood, and other materials.

After King Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered in 1922, scarabs and other ancient Egyptian motifs became popular once again during a period known as the Egyptian Revival.
