The princess cut was invented in 1979 by Israel "Izzy" Itzkowitz.

Princess cut is the name given to square-shaped to slightly rectangular shaped brilliant cut diamonds.

Unlike cut-cornered radiant cuts, which can also be square or slightly rectangular brilliant cuts, princess cuts have pointed corners.
