Platinum is an attractive, silver metal with an extremely high melting point of 3221.6˚ Fahrenheit.

Unlike silver and white gold, platinum does not tarnish over time, making it an excellent choice for jewelry.

Platinum was used in jewelry as far back as 1877 with the use of liquid oxygen, but wasn't commercially produced until 1895, with the invention of the oxyacetylene torch.
