Padparadscha sapphires were named after the beautiful lotus flowers of Sri Lanka, where the gem was originally discovered.

Padparadscha sapphires' color ranges from pinkish orange to orange-pink, often containing both pink and orange components.  Their coloration is often described as sunset or salmon.

Padparadscha sapphires are mined in Sri Lanka, Madagascar, and Tanzania.
