Old mine cut diamonds are the early ancestors of today's modern round brilliant cut diamonds.

Old mine cut diamonds were popular during the Georgian and Victorian eras of the 1700s and 1800s.

Their lumpy appearance is due to their asymmetrical proportions, having been cut by hand.  Small tables, high crowns, deep pavilions, and off-centered, open culets are typical characteristics of old mine cut diamonds.
