MICRO MOSAIC
Micro mosaic jewelry is created from tiny glass tiles, called tesserae, that are arranged to form an artistic image. This is a very time consuming process, as the mosaicist will use tweezers to carefully place each piece of glass into its proper position. Although micro mosaics date back to Ancient Rome, the technique reached the height of its popularity during the Victorian era, circa the 1840s-1870s. Tourists would purchase micro mosaics as souvenirs, while visiting Europe. |
