The marquise brilliant cut diamond is an elliptical shape with pointed ends.

Also known as a navette cut.

The very first marquise shaped diamond is credited to King Louis XV in the mid 1700s, when he had commissioned his court jewelers to create a diamond to match the shape of his mistress, Jean Antoinette Poisson.
