DAMASCENE
Damascene is an artistic metalwork technique where different metals are inlaid into one another. The Japanese call the process nunome-zogan which translates to cloth inlay. Usually gold and silver are used to create patterns atop a dark, oxidized metal background, very similar to niello. The term is derived from its resemblance to the rich tapestry patterns of damask silk. |
