Aquamarine is a March birthstone and is the blue to blue-green variety of beryl.

Other varieties of beryl include emerald (green), morganite (pink), and heliodor (yellow).

Aquamarine's name is derived from a Latin phrase that translates to "water of the sea".

In 1935, Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt was gifted a 1,847 carat fine aquamarine by the Brazilian government.

In 1953, the Brazilian government gifted Queen Elizabeth II with a magnificent aquamarine necklace and earrings set.  In 1957, she had an aquamarine and diamond tiara created to match the demi-parure.  In 1958, the Brazilian government presented the Queen with a matching aquamarine bracelet and brooch.

In 2018, Prince Harry continued family tradition by giving his mother's aquamarine to his bride on the day of their wedding.

Aquamarine is commonly heated to improve or change its color.  Color origin for this gem is currently undeterminable.
